Neville James Kennedy has been in custody, bail refused, ever since he handed himself in to police the day after the incident.
The stick-up happened on a Sunday morning, on January 24, but Kennedy has only just pleaded guilty before Albury Local Court, via a video link to Parklea jail.
IN OTHER NEWS:
That was to a single charge of being armed with intent to commit a serious indictable offence of larceny.
With that, police withdrew a second charge of robbery while armed with an offensive weapon.
Defence lawyer Henry Robinson had asked for an adjournment to gather material needed to support his sentencing submissions.
As with his previous court appearances, Kennedy did not apply for and so was formally refused bail.
The court was told how Kennedy was captured on CCTV security vision entering the Myer Centrepoint shopping centre about 7.30am.
He remained in the centre for about 40 minutes, but nothing untoward was noticed regarding his behaviour.
But about 8.10am he approached the Woolworths supermarket and sat down just out the front, clearly looking in the direction of the service desk.
He sat there for about five minutes and then entered the supermarket, walking the aisles for a couple of minutes before heading to the desk.
A staff member asked Kennedy: "How can I help you?"
Kennedy asked for a 40-pack of cigarettes, so the worker looked in the cigarette drawer.
He said he had the brand Kennedy wanted, but not the exact type. "That will do," he replied.
Kennedy then pulled out the uncapped syringe in his right hand, resting it on the counter in such a way that the victim could see the needle.
"Gimme (sic) everything in the till," Kennedy said.
The victim immediately stepped back, turned to his supervisor and said: "Call security."
Kennedy fled.
