With Victoria's COVID cases continuing to spiral out of control, Wangaratta Agricultural Society president Emma Williamson said there was no option but to abandon the October 8 and 9 event.
"We had to make a call now because of planning and the associated costs," Ms Williamson said.
"We really appreciate the support of the community for the show, and want them to know we will be back next year."
Many of the exhibitors and sideshows at Wangaratta come from Melbourne while organisers were bracing for tough crowd restrictions if the Victorian lockdown was lifted.
Last year's show was also called off due to the COVID pandemic.
