Five young men have been issued with $1800 fines for allegedly breaching COVID-19 restrictions in Wangaratta on Saturday night.
Wangaratta police acting Sergeant Scott Mundie said the men in their early 20s had gathered illegally for a house party before 8pm.
"But they got dobbed in pretty quickly," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Sergeant Mundie said two or three of the men at the gathering had travelled from the Porepunkah and Bright areas.
"Initially two males did a runner at the scene, but the inquiries are ongoing as to their identify," he said.
"The other five at the party were all issued with $1800 COVID tickets for breaching COVID restrictions."
Sgt Mundie said it was important all residents complied with the rules.
"Particularly when we've got Shepparton, which is not far away, in such dire straits," he said.
"We've virtually got COVID on our doorstep and people are still not complying with the chief health officer's directions."
