Alpine Shire staff maintain the river pool at Centenary Park and install weir boards from November to April.
But a risk assessment undertaken last season found issues with signage, staff training and infrastructure at the site.
There were 65 assisted rescues in a 31 day period last season.
Legal concerns have been raised about the slide, with staff recommending the structure be removed ahead of the swim season.
