The pandemic has changed the format of Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre's major fundraiser, but not its goal.
Trust fund board member John Watson wants to turn the region yellow on November 7 during the 2021 Virtual Sunshine Walk, where participants tackle routes of five, 10 or 20 kilometres in their own community.
"We want to have yellow everywhere, we want to have yellow through every little town and suburb," he said.
"Howlong, Holbrook, Mount Beauty, wherever they live, because we are regional with this cancer centre.
"They can do it in their own backyard, their own suburb."
Already 29 groups have registered this year.

The eight members of Team Bliss plan to walk 10km together.
"I think any more, we might struggle," Kellie McDonald said with a grin.
"We've been practising, the odd little walk."
Having lost her mother to cancer in 1998, aged 45, Mrs McDonald knows both the impact of the disease and the disruption caused if people are forced to travel for treatment.
"It would have made our life as a family so much easier if we had facilities like we've got now," she said.
"So anything we can do to make people's lives easier when they're going through such a traumatic thing will be so good."
Mr Watson said the fundraiser could continue even if current COVID-19 restrictions tightened.
"We can still go out there, we can still wear our lovely yellow shirts, use the internet to donate," he said.
