Grant Maxwell Williams faced court on Friday following the rollover on February 27 last year.
Police received a call about a crashed white Ford sedan on Murray River Road at Pine Mountain that morning.
The car had rolled and Williams, who was unlicensed due to drug driving, was nowhere to be seen.
Police went to his mother's address on Davis Street in Corryong in a bid to identify who had been behind the wheel.
Police spoke to Williams on March 29 and he became agitated before admitting he was responsible and storming off.
The Corryong Magistrates Court was told Williams had been lucky to escape with his life.
"It was quite a dramatic scene on the side of the road," lawyer Luke Timp said.
"The car flipped and was utterly destroyed.
"He doesn't know how he got out of it alive.
"He's said to me he should be dead."
