According to the latest Federal Government data, Alpine, Benalla, Indigo, Moira, Towong and Wangaratta local government areas are sitting in the low 80s for the percentage of residents who have received their first coronavirus vaccination, but only 76.8 per cent of Wodonga residents have received the shot.
Wodonga mayor Kevin Poulton said he was "really proud" of the community response.
He said Wodonga was lagging behind other North East councils because it was bigger.

"We've got a wonderful vaccine hub with people doing a really good job, but at the end of the day you're still trying to vaccinate a much larger population than in those surrounding areas," he said.
"If you look at whether it's 70 per cent of 1000 people or whether it's 70 per cent of 10,000 people, the 10,000 people are going to be harder to get to 70 per cent of."
Cr Poulton said since last week there had been a 6 per cent jump in vaccination first doses in Wodonga.
"That's something the city should really celebrate," he said.
On the NSW side of the border, first dose vaccination rates ranged from 55.4 per cent in Edward River council to more than 95 per cent in Murray River council.
Murray River mayor Chris Bilke said he was pleased with the vaccination uptake.
"I understand we're the highest in first dose vaccinations in the state and we're probably second or third in the second doses, so that's a terrific outcome," he said.
"It reflects how people along the border feel about vaccination rates to arrive at the levels we need in order for cross-border communities to operate effectively and people here are particularly dependent upon the visitor economy and understand that [vaccination's] the path way to restarting the economy."
Cr Bilke said the rates were also due to on older population and strong vaccination campaign.
Other NSW first dose vaccination rates were Albury 76 per cent, Berrigan 82.1 per cent, Federation 85.5 per cent, Greater Hume 73.8 per cent and Murrumbidgee 72.7 per cent.
In Victoria, Alpine was at 83.3 per cent, Benalla 80.8 per cent, Indigo 85.1 per cent, Moira 82.7 per cent, Towong 83.5 per cent and Wangaratta 82.2 per cent.
