The board had considered holding the popular field days in both March and September next year following the event's cancellation in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Henty Machinery Field Days CEO Belinda Anderson said the board ultimately decided the plan was not practical.
"Our exhibitors put a lot of time, effort and expense into the event, and there are also three other field days in Victoria and South Australia during March," Ms Anderson said.
Instead, Ms Anderson said the board was examining options for an alternative event to be held on March 12 and 13, in addition to the regular field days in September 2022.
While details for the new event's format are yet to be announced, the intention is to create "something that will carry on in the future".
"The aim of the event is really to get the community back together," Ms Anderson said.
"We're just hoping to get our communities back together after living through drought, bushfires and COVID restrictions."
Ms Anderson said plans were in the development phase and the board hoped it would appeal to locals while also forging a healthy future for an annual autumn event.
"If it's successful, then we'll certainly look at continuing it on each March," she said.
