Having tied down a regular spot in Brock-Burrum's senior footy side for the first time in his career, I'Anson will again be looking to lead by example with bat and ball in CAW Hume.
He captained Brock-Burrum to the grand final last season, eventually tasting defeat at the hands of Henty but proud of the progress they've made.
"I've done it for three years now," I'Anson said.
"The first couple of years was a bit of a struggle and we were pretty short on numbers but it was good last year, with a few more players so we weren't ringing people on Friday night, trying to get them to play.
"A couple of local blokes came back; my brother Darcy, Eddy Ziebath and Josh Koschzitke, so that really helped.
"The cricket's been merged for two years so the first year I was just captain of Burrumbuttock and that's when Darcy and a couple of other young blokes went into town to have a crack."
I'Anson scored 298 runs last season, averaging 27.09, and picked up 19 wickets at 15.32.
He's hoping to have Zac Barrenchea and Mitchell Koschitzke back in the side after stints in the provincial competition, the latter having played alongside him in the majority of the Saints' Hume league games.
"I really enjoyed playing ones," he said.
"It's a bit of a step up and you're always playing on someone who's a pretty good footballer every week.
"I played on a couple of the younger forwards, Ewan Mackinlay from Holbrook and Nathan Wardius from the Giants.
"I was probably just trying to stay as close to them as I could because they're pretty bloody quick and pretty good kicks.
"I played on Connor Galvin for a little bit against Osborne but he ended up playing most of the game in midfield so I wasn't on him for too long.
IN OTHER NEWS
"It's good to have a job, especially the first couple of games when you go up there and you're trying to find your feet at the level up.
"It's good to have a clear role and know what your job is.
"I got a bit of confidence out of it, I suppose, but I've always believed I could play senior footy.
"I played a couple of games when I was about 18, four or five years ago. I've played at Brock-Burrum my whole life and we won the thirds grand final two years ago.
"We had a pretty good team the whole time so I wouldn't say I expected to play seniors this year but I did most of the pre-season training and you always aim to play seniors every year."
