Albury Local Court heard on Tuesday how Joshua Aaron Green, with Ashley Rigby, was captured on CCTV footage entering the victim's ground floor Lavington motel unit.
As the 63-year-old slept, his mobile phone and a wallet containing $145 cash and numerous bank and identification cards were taken.

The pair later withdraw $4092 from his Commonwealth Bank account, having used his identity to access his online banking and then set a new PIN number.
Defence lawyer Mark Cronin told magistrate Richard Funston that Green, 27, had gone clean from drugs since he went into custody on April 8, upon the revocation of several intensive correction orders.
"He's been doing it tough in jail, your honour," Mr Cronin said.
"But he's put his hands up.
"He's very lucky ... that he retains the support of his parents, who have been through thick and thin with him."
Mr Funston imposed the previous orders.
"I said to him," Mr Cronin said, "that your honour would be extremely disappointed in him.
"When he's off the drugs he's a good, loving father."
Mr Funston said Green's actions in entering the motel room and targeting a man with stomach cancer were "atrocious".
Green, a cannabis user since 13 and of methamphetamine since turning 18, pleaded guilty to break and enter in company and dishonestly obtain a financial advantage by deception.
Rigby, 25, pleaded guilty to the same charges and his case will be finalised on November 16 after the completion of a sentence assessment report.
Rigby was also living at the motel when the incident happened on the night of February 24.
After discovering the theft the victim alerted his daughter, who was staying in the next unit so as to look after him.
Green will be released on parole on July 7, 2022.
