Albury LGA records 16 new cases of COVID-19 in last 24 hours

Health authorities appear confident they have the outbreak in hand with five case being household contacts of previously confirmed cases and 11 linked to known cases.

The two other new cases in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District are in Greater Hume and Berrigan council areas.

Albury has recorded 32 cases in the current outbreak.

Member for Albury Justin Clancy said on Saturday lockdowns would be avoided at all costs with the state on the cusp of hitting the 80 per cent double dose vaccination target.

"This is all part of reaching this part of the roadmap out," he said.

"We are trying to avoid lockdown situations.

"It just reiterates the importance of getting vaccinated.

"Four weeks ago if we had these cases we would be shutdown.

"It has been a challenging week for businesses, we understand that, but by being vaccinated we can keep our doors open."

But the Albury council area is still well short of the 70 per cent double dose rate in the latest update provided last Monday.

Earlier on Saturday, the MLHD announced 13 new venues of concern.

South of the border three new cases were reported in Wodonga and two in the Upper Murray.

The Greater Hume case is linked to a known case and in isolation, but the source of infection of the Berrigan case remains under investigation.
