A spokeswoman for Mercy Health confirmed the additional cases to The Border Mail.
"Following testing of residents at Mercy Place Albury, we are saddened to report that a further 14 residents and two staff members at our home have tested positive to COVID-19," she said.
"We also extend our deepest sympathy to the family and loved ones of a resident with COVID-19 who died earlier this morning.
"We continue to work closely with the Public Health Unit, Murrumbidgee Health District and Albury Wodonga Health.
"We have activated a full COVID-19 outbreak response in our home and have sent one of our expert infection control consultants to be on site.
"All residents have been tested, as have the majority of staff, and we will be re-testing all residents and staff again today.
The spokeswoman said in line with Public Health Unit directives, Mercy Health had introduced a number of measures to reduce potential spread of the virus, including residents isolating in their rooms.
"Given the significant levels of COVID-19 in our region, it has not been possible to determine the origin of this infection and we will defer to the Public Health Unit on whether any further investigation or genomic tracing would be undertaken to ascertain a link between the infection in our home and virus in the community," she said.
"We do know that when community infections are high, the risk to aged care services is similarly high.
"We are grateful for the support that our Mercy Place team has received from our residents' families and the broader Albury community while they too face the challenge of a growing COVID-19 outbreak across the region.
