Albury had 32 of the 37 new cases recorded in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District and Wodonga recording another 21 cases.
Wodonga has 21 new cases with 14 per cent of all Victorian new cases in regional areas and 38 per cent of those cases are under the age of 19.
Wodonga has 62 active cases.
Border Dance Workers was initially listed as an exposure site but Albury Wodonga Health later clarified it was no longer considered one.
More detail emerged on a second death that occurred this week at Mercy Place; a man in his 60s who was fully-vaccinated was the second resident to pass away.
A previous death at Mercy was a person in their 90s who was receiving palliative care.
Among the 32 news cases in Albury six are at Mercy.
Also, two more schools announced via Facebook on Saturday that they've closed due to school community members contracting COVID-19.
They are Albury North and Albury West public schools and all staff and students have been asked to isolate until they receive further notice.
Of the 255 cases in the current outbreak in the MLHD, Albury has 182 with new cases in the past 24 hours also being recorded in the council areas of Berrigan (two), Greater Hume, Federation and Edward River (one each).
MLHD is urging residents in Albury, Berrigan, Murray River, Federation and Greater Hume to limit their movements in and out of the community at this time.
Widespread COVID-19 testing is critical as the health authorities continue to resist a circuit-breaker lockdown.
Wangaratta has 11 new cases and Indigo one.
"There is strong evidence of community transmission in both Albury-Wodonga and Wangaratta, and we expect to see an increased number of cases in the coming days," the AWH statement on Saturday said.
"Unfortunately, COVID-19 is in our community and we need to be mindful of the risk it presents.
"To help minimise spread, we ask that everyone limit travel and movement wherever possible."
