De Marte, who played in the Demons' most recent flag in 2017, replaces Mitch Harris at the helm.
He was set to coach the club in 20020 before the season was abandoned due to COVID.
De Marte spent this season as co-coach of Barnawartha alongside Tom Anson.
The Demons have also welcomed back another familiar face in Matt McNamara as assistant coach.
McNamara also played in the 2017 flag triumph.
Demons vice-president and life member Evan Nicholas said it was exciting news to welcome the popular duo back to the club.
"We are very excited what Danny and Matt will bring to the club," Nicholas said.
"Danny was going to coach in 2020 and we couldn't believe it when he offered to come and coach us next year.
"We have also appointed Mark Boyle and Ryan Nicholas to coach the reserves."
