Lyn Graham, 77, will complete a 10-kilometre circuit for the Virtual Sunshine Walk 2021, a fundraiser for Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund.
Mrs Graham said she would tackle Federation Hill as part of her challenge on Sunday.
She said she had always walked up to five kilometres a day.
"I do walk regularly but I've ramped up my training over the past couple of weeks," she said.
"It is a challenge getting to the top of Federation Hill because I'm no spring chicken!
"But the views from the top are incredible; I'm a country girl at heart and I love the smell of the gum trees, the colour of the wattle and listening to the birdlife."
Mrs Graham said she had her own soundtrack ready for the top.
"I won't be singing The Hills Are Alive With The Sound of Music, it will be You Are My Sunshine," Mrs Graham said.
"After all of the COVID doom and gloom, it will be a nice feeling!"
IN OTHER NEWS:
Having been a volunteer at Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre before the global pandemic hit, Mrs Graham said she missed that experience.
"Because of COVID I haven't been able to volunteer but the Sunshine Walk is one way I can contribute," she said.
"It doesn't matter who you talk to, every family is touched by cancer."
Mrs Graham, who moved to Wodonga a few years ago from Gundowring, said she kept in good physical health.
"I keep active and fit and look after my body," Mrs Graham said.
"Still, I do believe there will be a cheer squad for me showing up at the end!"
The Sunshine Walk raises money and awareness for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund. Now in its third year, the virtual event ensures vital fundraising can continue amid the global pandemic.
An opening ceremony will be livestreamed before participants walk 5 kilometres, 10 kilometres or 20 kilometres anywhere in their community.
Walkers are encouraged to wear a Sunshine Walk shirt or supporters can deck out their front garden or window with yellow throughout November.
More than 500 people and 55 teams have registered for the Virtual Sunshine Walk 2021, raising more than $100,000 so far.
As the Trust Fund's major fundraising campaign, it had raised more than $430,000 overall.
