Corowa's Redgum Skin Clinic, Evelyn Street, now open for bookings

Redgum Skin Clinic, Corowa, opens to patients on Tuesday, November 16, offering treatments including full body mole scanning, laser treatments and hair removal.

Doctors Ayon Guha, David Moniz and Aung Htun will oversee the private clinic supported by site leader Monique Skinner, two nurses and two receptionists.

Federation mayor Pat Bourke, who cut a ceremonial opening ribbon on Monday, described the project as groundbreaking not just for Corowa but the whole region.

"To have a one-stop shop under one roof is just fantastic," Cr Bourke said.

"Thank-you for being so passionate towards health."

Dr Guha said early detection helped combat skin cancer but previously residents often had to source and wait for available appointments in Albury or Wangaratta.

"We thought it would be a good idea to provide them easier, earlier, reasonably priced access so the detection can be done locally, treatment can be done locally, any complications from the treatment can be dealt with locally," he said.

"It will help the community in terms of saving travel time.

"Corowa is a growing town, we want the rest of the state to look at us and say that we do have all the medical facilities that you would be wanting."

Educating people on checking their skin would also feature at the Corowa Medical Group facility.

"Farmers, as you know, don't know how to rest," Dr Guha said with a smile.

"They start in the morning, they finish at night and they will come to the doctor only when they are very, very, very sick.

"We will be doing a whole gamut of things here, from skin cancer detection, treatment, follow-up as well as treating scars, birthmarks, hair removal, it will evolve."

Mrs Skinner said the Redgum Skin Clinic building, previously used for physiotherapy, pathology and dental, sat on Evelyn Street, opposite Corowa Hospital.

"The first week's pretty much solidly booked and now we're into the next week, so the response has been great," she said.
