Deniliquin house 'pretty much destroyed' by fire, police investigate

"As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone with information, or who may have dashcam vision or CCTV from the area, to come forward," police said in a statement on Wednesday.

EARLIER: Crime scene officers will examine the site of a Deniliquin fire that engulfed a house on Tuesday night.

Chief Inspector Jy Brown, of Deniliquin, said the cause and origin of the Maher Street incident had not yet been determined.

"At this stage it's still under investigation," he said on Wednesday morning.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said numerous triple zero calls were received, with crews called to the scene at 7.56pm.

The small weatherboard home was well alight, but no one was inside when crews arrived.

About 12 firefighters from Deniliquin and Finley used three trucks to put out the fire by 9.03pm. handing the incident over to police about 10pm.

No one was injured and no other properties were affected.

Chief Inspector Brown said police had established a crime scene at the house.

"It's been extensively damaged, pretty much destroyed," he said.

"It's believed that the house is owned by Housing NSW and managed by a local non-government agency in Deniliquin.

"We are aware that the house was occupied however no occupants were home at the time of the fire."
