With the home side needing seven runs from five balls to beat East Albury, the pressure was on the Hume league Cricketer of the Year - and he delivered.
McCarthy swung Matt Tom's next ball high over the square-leg boundary to level the scores and then settled things by sending a near-identical shot sailing into the vehicles parked alongside the perimeter fence.
"It got a bit intense but I've been through it before," the 20-year-old said. "You've just got to keep a cool head.
"We spoke about trying to tick the strike over and I was just trying to get him (Nat Sariman) on strike.
"I knew that dot ball was going to be a bit of pressure but getting one dragged down to me was a bit of a gift and to put it over the fence was pretty nice.
"He had the field pretty straight so if I could hit over square or even get it fine, there was a few runs there. Trying to go over square leg was my main target.
"I'm batting low down the order so you're basically there for that reason sometimes. Today got a bit close and it's a relief to win.
"The nerves, for me, kick in when I'm next into bat but when you walk out there, it all goes.
"It's awesome to be here. It's the best club going around in the league, they're so welcoming and everyone's good with all the kids getting around.
Albury captain Ross Dixon hailed the former Holbrook player's composure in the crunch moment.
"Corey's showed a huge amount of calmness to play those shots," Dixon said.

"Those two sixes made it look easier than it was.
"Corey's a really talented cricketer and he plays with freedom.
"Maybe we should take a leaf out of his book.
"I've been here before with Albury, struggling to chase.
"But that's four chases and four wins so we're starting to change the culture.
"We're here to win games of cricket and if we have to win ugly, we will."
Sariman top-scored for Albury with an unbeaten 41, his highest score since crossing from Belvoir.
Earlier, the Crows had recovered from 4/12 to post 8/109 largely thanks to Matt Tom and Dominic Wild, who both made 31.
