Matt and Jacob Turvey, David and Jaye Gericke, Mick and Jordan Rose and John and Charles Brennan walked out together for Barnawartha-Chiltern's C-grade side against Corowa on an afternoon none of them will ever forget.
The Miners were captained by Matt Turvey, playing for the first time since 2007, while Jacob was making his competitive cricket debut as a 14-year-old.
"Going to the game was great," Turvey said.
"The preparation, training during the week and to be able to put my knowledge to Jacob, to try to better his game and for him to find his own rhythm, is really special.
"It's pretty heart-warming when you can walk out there and go 'OK, we're going to play a game together and let's just have fun.'
"He loves cricket and footy, he's just a typical teenager.
"I told him not to be too nervous and just do what we do in the nets, when we practice, and even at home.
"He idolises a few of the cricketers on TV and he tries to mimic what they do so I told him to go out there and play his game."
Barnawartha-Chiltern may have lost the game by 107 runs but there was a magical moment when Jaye Gericke took a catch off dad David's bowling.
"The batter just hit it straight to him and he caught it," Turvey said.
"To see the excitement on their faces, that they'd worked together and actually done really well, was absolutely beautiful.
ALSO IN SPORT:
"It was a good learning curve for the kids and just a wonderful opportunity for us to play with our sons.
"We tried to do it last year with footy, up at the Federals in Corryong, but my son wasn't quite old enough to play with me.
"For the kids, this was their first game, and we're looking forward to more days like this in the future."
David Gericke and Matt Turvey picked up two wickets each, with Craig Wright claiming 5-17, as Corowa were bowled out for 189.
And although the Miners could only manage 82 in reply - Jordan Rose (21) and Matt Turvey (15) top-scoring - those on-field connections will only grow stronger.
The fathers have formed lasting friendships through sport and now their sons have the chance to do the same.
"Mick Rose is the mortar in between all the bricks, with everything he does for the club," Turvey said.
"We've gone from cricket to footy and he's a massive help.
"These guys aren't there just to play with their sons, they're there to do it as a team and best mates.
"Mick goes above and beyond every day for the club, and guys like Dave are the same.
"It's a special club and we're proud to be part of it."
