Lochlan Benjamin Nixon-May on Monday pleaded guilty to charges including unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping, theft, drug trafficking and assault related offences in the County Koori Court.
The charges stemmed from an incident in Wodonga on December 18 last year in which a teenager was driven to a home, tied to a chair, repeatedly attacked and allegedly carved with a weapon.
The victim told the court through a victim impact statement he suffered flashbacks, PTSD and anxiety over the ordeal.
The victim had failed to transfer $50 in cash for three grams of marijuana before being punched multiple times at a Wirilda Court home.
He was then forcibly taken to a Castle Creek Road home.
The property was ransacked while the victim was taped to a chair.
He was allegedly carved with Nixon-May's weapon and repeatedly punched, kicked and stomped on.
The victim was allegedly forced to sign a receipt for a Holden Commodore amid threats before the car was taken.
Nixon-May was allegedly attacked after the incident and told officers he couldn't remember anything until he woke up in the police cells.
There were more 90 items taken from the home including the vehicle, electronic devices, jewellery, clothes, a guitar, and video games.
Yorta Yorta elder Pam Pederson told Nixon-May during a sentencing conversation he had "ruined" the victim.
"This is just terrible, what's happened to this victim .. all for $50," she said.
"You're a young man and you've got yourself in so much trouble"

His parents wiped away tears while hearing details of the case and his life.
"It's horrible behaviour," his mother said.
The court heard it was a complex matter.
"I'm mainly under the impression that I'm going to go away for a long time ... I don't know how I'm going to prepare for the future," the 19-year-old said.
The case will return on January 27 while co-accused Scott Coates will face court on Friday.
