Albury man no stranger to the courts, having previously served stints behind bars

Thirty-year-old Beau Eric Burgess was handed a four-month term in Albury Local Court four years ago for disqualified driving.

Three years earlier, he was given a District Court sentence of 18 months for bashing another man in front of a five-year-old girl.

Burgess has now once again appeared before the Local Court, via a video link to where he was being held in custody in the Albury police station.

This time he faced a range of driving and drug-related offences, matters that defence lawyer Tim Hemsley said Burgess would not be contesting.

Police have charged Burgess with two counts of disqualified driving, two of dangerous driving, supply a prohibited drug at greater than an indictable but less than a commercial quantity, possess a prohibited drug, deal with the proceeds of crime, resist police and two counts of drive under the influence of drugs.

Mr Hemsley asked court registrar Wendy Howard to order the preparation of a sentence assessment report.

This will delay sentencing until early next year, with Burgess to spend that time in jail after deciding not to make an application for bail.

"He instructs me he wishes to plead guilty to each of the charges," Mr Hemsley said.

He said Burgess had been on parole and "was going quite well until this point".

Burgess previously apologised to the court for his criminal behaviour, which he blamed on addictions to alcohol and drugs "for more than half my life".

On one occasion he worked as a drug runner for a co-offender.

Ms Howard adjourned all charges for sentencing on January 24.
