Albury Wodonga Kart Club successful at Karting Australia NSW Premier State Cup

James Brett, Ryan Van Ree, Blair Van Ree and Herman Van Ree were all awarded a Blue Plate for their performances at the Karting Australia NSW Premier State Cup in Newcastle.

All six of the club's drivers finished on the podium.

In wet and wild conditions, Brett took the clean sweep in the KA4 Junior Heavy category on both days of competition.

Ryan Van Ree also took out the clean sweep on both days and secured his Blue Plate in TAG Restricted Heavy.

His brother, Blair Van Ree, dominated most of the weekend in TAG Restricted Medium, taking the third step of the podium on Saturday and the top step on Sunday - and the family involvement didn't stop there.

Herman Van Ree, their father and a veteran racer from the club, wrapped up his clean sweep with a Blue Plate in TAG Restricted Masters Medium.

Dylan Muller, in TAG Restricted Light, ended Saturday in second position and Sunday in first place for his first open race win, which handed him second place in the state championship after missing round one.

Scott Chaston ended his series in KZ2 with second place overall after some highly competitive racing in his class all weekend.

Chaston is now heading to the Go Kart Club of South Australia at Murray Bridge on December 10-12 to compete in KZ2 at the final round of the Australian Kart Championship.

"It was great for our club," president Sheree Muller said.

"It was a NSW-run event but we live on the NSW/VIC border so to see a club from Victoria come in and take away four of the Blue Plates was fantastic.

"Karting has been on and off for the last two years because of COVID, there's been very little competitive racing so to see them do so well, with so little racing leading up to the event, is just great.

"You can race from age seven to however old you think you can still go. We have some 60-year-olds racing.

"COVID has impacted the club financially but we haven't lost many members and we've actually gained a few in that time."
