Deb Mudra appointed Wodonga Council acting chief executive until June next year

Ms Mudra, who has worked for council since 1996 in a variety of positions, was appointed to the top job until June 30 next year at a special council meeting on Monday.

Her present role is deputy chief executive and director of city growth, engagement and people.

Ms Mudra also had a stint as acting chief executive when Patience Harrington resigned in late 2018.

Chief executive Mark Dixon departs council at the end of this week after the former Wodonga TAFE boss spent three years with the council.

Details of his new position overseas could also be publicly released this week.

At the council's final meeting for 2021 this month, the revised master plan for Junction Place will be on the agenda with the planning permit application for a Dan Murphy's bottle shop on the corner of Elgin Boulevard and Smythe Street coming up in February.

Wodonga's contribution towards priority projects in the Albury-Wodonga Regional Deal, either financial or in-kind, also needs to be confirmed ahead of formal sign-off on the arrangement also involving the federal, state governments and Albury council.

Wodonga mayor Kevin Poulton paid tribute to Mr Dixon at Monday's meeting.

"I know you've had great respect and support from the entire organisation during your time as CEO," Cr Poulton said.

"I do know when I've spoken to staff, and seen them interact with you as well, they speak very highly of you."

Mr Dixon said in response: "Working in local government is an absolute privilege and an absolute honour.

"The three years have gone remarkably quickly, but nevertheless if you look back at what we've achieved as a council over that three years it has been fairly substantial and significant.

"I think I leave the council staff that I actually manage in very good shape.

"It is a very strong competent team with a clear vision for the future and a clear desire to what's best for our community."
