The Ombudsman's stinging criticism of the Andrews Labor government's handling of permits which left thousands of Victorians stranded outside their home state has been supported by Opposition leader Matthew Guy.

Ombudsman Deborah Glass has recommended Premier Daniel Andrews publicly apologise for the bureaucratic pain inflicted.
Mr Guy said saying sorry was the least Mr Andrews could do.
"Returning Victorian travellers should have been registered at the border, told you can't stop, you have to go home, and when you got home, have a COVID test within 24 hours and quarantine," he said.
"Asking a lot of people in their 70s to drive from Queensland through NSW in 24 hours, towing a van, you can't do that.
"In 30 years of politics I've never seen a government so political.
"There is no decision of the government unless it only has a lens of politics over it.
"We've seen Bracks and Brumby, they had a lens of politics, but were never this bad.
"Victoria needs to have a dose of positivity.
"We need to heal the state, govern for everyone, all parts of the state, take the political lens off.
"The state needs a government that brings us all together."
