The property at 678 Banff Avenue, Albury, last sold nearly 50 years ago.
It has been tightly held since.
The auction of the historic, late Victorian red-brick home by Stean Nicholls drew a crowd of more than 100 people to the house's private botanic gardens.
Nearby, about 70 people gathered to witness the auction of 644 Kiewa Street.
Auctioneer Lachlan Hutchins said it was very unusual to have two properties in the tightly held area up for sale at the same time.
Built in 1893, the Victorian home attracted bids from three separate parties, but was eventually passed-in at auction with a highest bid of $1.69 million.
It sold after auction for an undisclosed amount.
In Wodonga, a five-bedroom, three-bathroom home that "ticks all the boxes" according to auctioneer Mark Boehm of PJ Murphy, sold for more than $1.3 million.
The property at 1 Donnington Drive boasted a "remarkable street front presence" surrounded by craftsman-built retaining walls.
The property was passed in after attracting a highest bid of $1.3 million, but sold after negotiations.
Mr Boehm declined to disclose the final price, but said it exceeded expectations.
A four-bedroom art deco home in Forrest Hill Avenue sold for $1.39 million after more than 27 bids were entered at auction.
The property, also offered by Stean Nicholls, was renovated in 2014 and featured modern fittings while retaining its Art Deco character.
