David Kitson wanted by police in relation to Wodonga stabbing

Wodonga police were called to the corner of Lawrence and Lyndren Street at about 9.45pm on Tuesday after a man, 33, and teenager, 17, were stabbed.

Both victims were taken to hospital for treatment. The 17-year-old, who intervened in the stabbing, was discharged while the man, who sustained serious injuries, remains hospitalised in a stable condition.

Wodonga Detective Senior Sergeant Garry Barton said a warrant had been issued for the arrest of David Kitson, 38, of Wodonga in relation to the incident.

"We want this male apprehended," he said.

Police reassured residents there was no risk to the public, as the incident took place between known parties.

"We believe alcohol was involved and we are taking this extremely seriously," he said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Barton said the victims were stabbed all over the body but did not go into further detail.

"I think any stab wound has the potential to kill," he said. "I don't care how big the knife is, how small the cut is - any stab wound has the potential to kill.

"Any edge weapons are an absolute danger to our community."

Police and State Emergency Service members conducted a line search along Lyndren Street yesterday afternoon, searching down drains and in neighbouring yards in an attempt to locate a blue-handled knife.

Detective Senior Sergeant Barton said police had been working tirelessly on the case and were satisfied the arrest of Kitson was justified.

He said stabbing offences were taken 'very, very seriously' by police.

"This is a violent offence, we don't like this occurring in out community," Detective Senior Sergeant Barton said.

Kitson was last seen wearing black shorts, a red cap and a 'Louis Vuitton' face mask.

Investigators have released an image of Kitson in the hope that someone may be able to provide information on his current whereabouts.

He is Caucasian in appearance, with two face tattoos, brown-blonde hair and a prominent neck tattoo.

Police suspect Kitson, who has no means of transport, might use friends or public transport to get around.
