Chase Gardner and his girlfriend had sat down on their deck to enjoy a beer when they spotted a massive plant about to bloom.
After some research, Mr Gardner found out it was an Agave Americana, otherwise known as a century plant.
It is native to southern parts of the US and northern and central Mexico, and, when fully mature, it develops a branched flower cluster on a flowering stem between six and 12 metres tall.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It's cool because it's decided to bloom when an American comes in," Mr Gardner laughed.
"There's a lot of other really cool plants around here, I think this is actually the ugliest point of view of the property (laughs).
"We literally just moved in and we're having a beer and said 'what is that thing?' and we figured it out."
Mr Gardner was born in Texas but moved to San Francisco and then Melbourne, but like many in COVID, escaped the city for regional Victoria.
