Police divers from Melbourne searched the waterway from 8am to just before 5pm on Sunday without success.
They will now return to the Victorian capital with monitoring of the area to continue on a reduced level.
Boxing Day update: Divers from Victoria police have been brought in to assist with the search for a boy missing in the Murray River in Albury.
They have joined NSW police, NSW Ambulance, members of the Volunteer Rescue Association and State Emergency Service, and drone operators in the hunt for the teenager who got into difficulty while in the river about 2.15pm on Christmas Day.
He was part of a group that was helped from the water but remained unaccounted for.
A search for him run through to 8.40pm on Saturday night before being suspended due to poor light.

Emergency services have responded to a Christmas Day tragedy at Noreuil Park.
NSW Police, SES and the Albury and Border Rescue Squad responded to reports of a drowning just before 3pm.
A witness, who asked not to be named, said a young man with a group of friends was in the water near the Noreuil Park foreshore boat ramp.
He was about 10 to 15 metres from the bank and by himself in the water, and reportedly had his hands up before disappearing under the water.
The family linked to the young African man rushed to the scene and were visibly distressed.
Police blocked off the scene and supported the family as SES and Border Rescue members took to the river to search for the young man.
The incident was witnessed by a number of people.

NSW Police media have confirmed police are searching the Murray River near Noreuil Park in Albury.
A spokeswoman said someone was seen entering the water and didn't resurface.
"They're just getting the rescue team down there," she said.
