On the hunt for a job: Brodie Taylor willing and able to work

Brodie Taylor, 14, also happens to have a spinal cord disability, which means he generally gets about in a wheelchair.

That hasn't dampened his desire to get a part-time job after school and on weekends to earn a bit of money like the rest of his mates.

He's put the call out asking for someone to give him a chance - he's got his resume and referees ready and a supportive family behind him.

The Murray High School student, who will go in to Year 9 next year and wants to study corporate law, does not want to work in fast food; it's not his thing.

He would love a role in customer service, or could tackle administration-related tasks given he's good with technology.

"I'd love people to give me an opportunity to work," he said.

"Everyone says I have a good personality and I'm really kind ... I'm also pretty fast at learning things."

A post on social media in November about Brodie's quest attracted 191 shares and dozens of encouraging comments.

But to date there's still no job.

Brodie is adamant he is just as competent as "any able-bodied person"; he just can't do physically taxing jobs.

His mum, Del Taylor, agrees her son is more than capable of joining the workforce.

"He's very intelligent and I believe he can take on the challenge of participating in the tasks of a normal workplace," she said.

"We talk about community inclusion all the time; well Brodie just wants to get a job like any other 14-year-old kid."

If prospective employers have questions about Brodie's capability within a work environment, his NDIS support worker is available to assist with the transition, according to Mrs Taylor.

"The options are there for the employer to feel supported in terms of assisting Brodie and to assess what he is capable of," she said.

"Brodie has an NDIS plan, which would allow for his disability support worker to go with him initially into a new work place."

Brodie already has a few runs under his belt, having helped out in the family's own business from time to time.

"I think Dad would recommend me," he laughed.
