Maleah Beckwith is playing the iconic character of Dorothy in Albury Wodonga Theatre Company's production of 'The Wizard of Oz' in 2022, and the 18 year old said she was excited for the opportunity.
"It's going to be a really great show," she said.
"I'm going to be working with heaps of experienced people, which is going to be pushing me and helping me develop as an actor myself.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It's definitely going to challenging, it's going to be a whole new cast and I'm working with people who are bit older than me as well."
Ms Beckwith has been in numerous performances on the Border so far, including performing in a ByteSized theatre production and performances within Trinity Anglican College, where she graduated from Year 12 this year.
Though showing a clear passion for theatre, Ms Beckwith said she didn't necessarily want to pursue acting for her career.
"I just want to keep it as a hobby," she said.
"But there's always different places you can grow in as a person and so this is definitely one of those opportunities."
Ms Beckwith said she hoped playing Dorothy would improve her confidence and expand her social circles.
"There's a whole world in front of me that I have to explore myself," she said.
"I'm just excited to work with a whole new group of people, because I've been in my productions but it's all the same people that I work with.
"So now I get to branch out and meet people, work with an entirely new class, new director, new crew and it's going to be really interesting to be able to form new friendships and relationships with people and experiences.
"Dorothy is quite young and naive and just wants to go on the adventures that are put in front of her, so I really want to capture that essence and just be able to portray a character that wants to explore new things and meet new people and hopefully learn a thing or two along the way."
The Wizard of Oz will be at the Albury Entertainment Centre on May 13 - 21. Tickets are on sale.
