The Country Universities Centre - Ovens Murray has been formed with federal government funding to bring sites to Corryong, Mansfield and Wangaratta this year.
Any student enrolled in an Australian university will be able to register to use the centres without charge.
They will receive access to facilities including reliable internet and support from centre managers.
Former Whitfield Primary School principal Mark Van Bergen was appointed the inaugural centre manager for the region in October.
He said applications for co-ordinators/administrators at each of the sites closed on Monday.
"Over the next couple of weeks we'll shortlist and interview," he said.
"We'll start putting in some desks and devices through January and February and hopefully be up and functioning for the start of the university year.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The two main things to prepare have been getting someone on the ground locally, who can support students, and having the building accessible to students seven days a week from 7(am) until midnight.
"Then we'll really upscale our promotion - it's exciting."
The locations will be:
- Wangaratta - Cusack House
- Corryong - Corryong Innovation Hub, 6 Boundary St
- Mansfield - Adult Continuing Education, 145 High St
