CAW chairman Michael Erdeljac held off on the decision until Friday afternoon but ultimately had to make the tough call as the region continued to be soaked.
"Depending where you are we've had between 110 and 170 millimetres of rain," Erdeljac said.
"Due to wet weather and player safety, we've had to call cricket off this weekend.

"The sun will probably come out for the rest of time, but if that's the case, that's fine because it still means Country Week matches will go ahead on Sunday and Monday.
"To be fair, I didn't want to call it, but it got to the point where we had to.
"Ninety per cent of our grounds have had covers on them since Tuesday night, but the issue is wickets have been 80 per cent prepared. You won't be able to get a roller out there to prepare the wicket and you still need the ground to dry.
"The big grounds like Bunton Park, Alexandra Park and Birallee Park still have water on them and to me that's unsafe."
Erdeljac said COVID was another major factor with at least 20 of the 32 clubs across the association affected.
"People haven't been able to get their results back and could be playing when they're positive," he said.
"You can't get a rapid test anywhere so people don't know what's going on."
