But to perform with the pair on her own turf will be even sweeter.
The former Albury performer and Australian Idol finalist has landed a support slot for Kelly and Finn’s first national tour together and that means she’ll be joining them on the bill at the 10th anniversary A Day on the Green at Wahgunyah’s All Saints Estate on March 2.
Mitchell, 22, whose national Bless This Mess album tour wrapped up in Byron Bay on Monday, summed up her reaction to the news in just two words: “I’m pumped”.
“It will be an incredible excuse to be at every one of their shows,” she said.
Hunters and Collectors frontman Mark Seymour and his band The Undertow will complete the All Saints line-up.
At the launch of their national tour in Sydney yesterday, Kelly and Finn promised concerts with at least 30 hand-picked songs from across their impressive careers.
“We don’t want this to be a token romp through each other’s songs, we want it to be a little more expansive,” Finn said.
“We want to put time and work into creating distinctive versions of the stuff we do, that are distinct to this tour.”
Finn’s songbook ranges across classics from Crowded House, Split Enz and the Finn Brothers as well as solo material, and includes Don’t Dream It’s Over, Something So Strong, Better Be Home Soon, Weather With You and Four Seasons In One Day.
Paul Kelly’s 19th studio album, Spring and Fall, was released last month, the latest offering in a 30-year career that has produced hits such as Before Too Long, To Her Door and How To Make Gravy.
Mitchell is looking forward to what will be an increasingly rare visit to the Border.
“It will be a really special couple of days especially as I’ve grown up going to A Day on the Green and it means a lot to me playing on my home ground,” she said.
After competing on the 2006 series of Australian Idol at 16, Mitchell’s career blossomed with the release of the hit album Wonder, an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival in Britain and a support spot for British folk-rock darlings Mumford & Sons.
Tickets for the All Saints A Day on the Green will go on sale next Friday, at ticketmaster.com.au, phone 136 100, or the Rutherglen Wine Experience on 1800 622 871.
