But 2023 had different plans with some Aussies on the east coast enjoying Christmas festivities against the backdrop of grey clouds, storms and incessant rain.
Both Sydney and Melbourne's weather stayed in the low to mid 20s on Christmas.
But while hundreds of Sydneysiders flocked to Bondi to soak up the rays on, Melburnians were huddled indoors as large parts of the state experienced heavy rainfall.
