A shortage of competition in Dubbo’s building industry has been identified in a study by an online find-a-trade service. A report released by ServiceSeeking.com.au has indicated the rate of builders and carpenters across the region is below the national average.  The data – derived by analysing a sample of 52,000 quotes submitted during the second quarter of the financial year – highlights the most profitable areas for tradies operating across the state.  It identified the Orana region as a goldmine for employment for tradespeople.   The report states builders in Dubbo have 69 per cent less competition versus the national average, and the rate of carpenters in the Central West is 52 per cent lower. Website CEO, Jeremy Levitt, said the undersupply is a positive sign for Regional NSW builders. “If you’re a builder in the South Coast or Regional NSW, the undersupply in Dubbo or Shoalhaven is a huge opportunity,” Mr Levitt said.  “It’s a great chance for builders to increase their prices and capitalise on the lack of supply.” Dubbo Chamber president, Matt Wright, defended the region from the report’s insinuation of a lack of competition. “I suppose the downside is this report is indicating there’s potentially a lack of competition,” he said. “We’ve seen a number of new entrants into the industry over the last few years. “There has been a few new names popping up on signs around Dubbo, some who are from outside the city who are taking advantage of the Dubbo climate.” Mr Wright added there is a opportunity for people to enter the construction industry in the city as it endures a construction boom. “There has been a significant level of construction over the two years, and with the development that continues to happen around the city construction will continue on for a number of years,” he said. “The boom is coming from estates on the back of first home buyers which is what the NSW state government has been targeting for the last couple of years. “They’ve been targeting the construction of new dwellings through the first home buyers grant scheme, but also for second and subsequent buyers to take advantage of the $5000 stamp duty rebate on the purchase of land or a new home.”
