It’s been a brutal season for the Border outfit, plummeting to second last with a two-nine win-loss record.
Incredibly, the Thunder has lost eight games by 10 points or less, including the 30-20 defeat against Junee.
“’Purty’ (Purtell) has given us a free rein this week to throw the ball around and play a bit of footy,” back-rower Jon Huggett said.
“We threw the ball around a bit last week and we seemed to find a bit of joy with it.
“It’s more about having a bit of fun, obviously still playing professional and trying to win the game but, at the same time, we want to enjoy it and play a bit more exciting football.”
The prediction for showers certainly won’t help the club’s plan to play an entertaining brand, but with five rounds still left, the Thunder has to find motivation from within and razzle-dazzle football could be the answer with finals out of the equation.
Tumut, meantime, has plenty to play for as it sits just outside the top four.
