Beechworth and Rutherglen RSLs will receive $5000 in funding and 10 days of training and support to preserve their collections under the Victorian government’s Veterans Heritage Project.
Indigo Council’s Burke Museum and cultural heritage manager Cameron Auty, who will take part in the project, said on-site collection management assistance would help the groups digitise their memorabilia.

“The RSLs have done a great job protecting and displaying the objects, some of them since the First World War,” he said.
“Participating in the Veterans Heritage Project will bring the objects to a much wider audience by sharing them online, and ensure that the RSLs have best practice advice and equipment going forward.”
Mr Auty said the program had previously unearthed wonderful stories and significant artefacts, and often brought hidden objects out into the public view for the first time in a century.
