Julia Scott, now a resident of Yackandandah’s Yamaroo Hostel, was born in Melbourne on November 25, 1918, the oldest and last-surviving of three siblings.

Her nephew John said his aunt spent most of her life in Chiltern as part of the family grocery business.

“Four generations of Scotts ran the general store in Chiltern,” he said. “She worked with her father and her brother William, my dad.”

Active in the town, Miss Scott contributed to groups like Red Cross, Church of England (now Anglican), senior citizens, meals on wheels, golf club and bowling club, often serving as secretary or treasurer.

She lived in her own home and kept driving until her mid-90s and still maintains good health, enjoying activities like bingo and cards.

“What a great citizen she’s been in Chiltern, she never had a bad word to say about anybody,” Mr Scott said.

“Just an all-round nice person, everybody liked her.”
