Playing a T20 game to avoid the afternoon heat, the home team smashed 6-168 with Will Sharp blasting 52.
Paddy Parnell continued his strong from with 3-17 from four overs.
The visitors replied with 6-110 through Tyler Roberson (24) and Ryan Wandel (21 not out), while Zac Lassey chipped in with 20.
Despite the three losses, CAW captain Matt Crawshaw looked at the positive side.
“It’s three hits for the guys over the Christmas break and with plenty of club cricket coming up, it obviously holds them in good stead for a good second half of the year,” he said.
Wangaratta handed CAW another hiding on the opening day.
Bailey Dale top-scored with 44 in the 40-over match as Parnell (3-32) and Lassey (3-47) did their best to restrict the batting.
In reply, CAW was skittled for 71.
Jack Heriot was the only player to post double figures, compiling an unbeaten 25 at number seven.
Opening bowler Angus Heslin was almost unplayable, finishing with 3-3 from five miserly overs.
Dale rounded out a strong match with 2-12.
In the second game, Heriot again proved the main stumbling block with 31 at number six.
Tom Stewart nabbed 3-5.
The visitors replied with 5-110, with Josh Nanson 44 not out.
Parnell snared 2-19.
“I know for a fact some of the boys in our side have said that’s the quickest bowling they’ve faced in their short careers and obviously that will help them in the future,” Crawshaw said.
“Will Sharp is a left-armer who only has a short run up, he’s quite a strong boy, so it’s pretty deceiving and their other opener (Heslin) also bowled really well.”
Crawshaw was quizzed if Sharp would open at CAW provincial level.
“If he didn’t open, he’d definitely bowl early, he’s got good pace and control,” the provincial representative batsman said.
Three of the carnival’s eight divisions are now completed after the inaugural female competitions – under 17 and 13 – contested the opening day.
The under 16s, 15s and 14s will play their final round on Saturday with the decider on Sunday.
The 13s will also play their grand final on Sunday, while the 12s will also complete their last round.
