THE driver of an unregistered vehicle which slammed into a bridge wall during a police pursuit is on the run.
The person behind the wheel of the blue Holden Commodore managed to flee the scene of the crash on Sunday night, but his passenger wasn’t so lucky.
The vehicle – which had once been registered in South Australia, but had been unregistered for the past two years – came to police attention about 9.45pm.
Police performed a U-turn after spotting the car travelling above the speed limit.
The Commodore sped off and lost control on Calimo Street.
The vehicle slammed into the wall of the Fallon Street bridge, and took out a “no entry” sign.
The driver managed to run away.
The female passenger managed to get out through a rear door and ran, but was arrested on Fallon Street a short time later.
The car crash came during a busy weekend for emergency services.
Police were called to a vehicle fire on Mountford Crescent in East Albury in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A Volkswagen was torched about 4.30am.
Firefighters spent about 20 minutes extinguishing the blaze.
It occurred about six hours after a fire on Ryan Road near the Albury golf course, which also burnt out a Volkswagen.
The incidents are not thought to be linked.
Police are also investigating a grass fire lit at Mungabareena Reserve about 7.30pm on Saturday.
