The person behind the wheel of the blue Holden Commodore managed to flee the scene of the crash on Sunday night, but his passenger wasn’t so lucky.
The vehicle – which had once been registered in South Australia, but had been unregistered for the past two years – came to police attention about 9.45pm.
Police performed a U-turn after spotting the car travelling above the speed limit.
The Commodore sped off and lost control on Calimo Street.
The vehicle slammed into the wall of the Fallon Street bridge, and took out a “no entry” sign.
The driver managed to run away.
The female passenger managed to get out through a rear door and ran, but was arrested on Fallon Street a short time later.
The car crash came during a busy weekend for emergency services.
