Dederang’s 9-188 from 45 overs was more than competitive on a good batting wicket at Kiewa, but the Hawks played brilliantly.
Opener Scott Goodwin starred with 56, but had plenty of support from opening partner Jacob Ozolins (30), Josh Bartel (32), Craig Pontt (27 not out) and skipper Brent de Vries (32).
It capped off an excellent all-round performance from de Vries, who also claimed 3-15 with the ball, including the prized scalp of Luke Deans for 68.
Kiewa coach Ben Curphey admitted there was plenty of value for shots for the batsman.
“It was very pleasing to get the win, especially after dropping one we should have won last week,” Curphey said.
“We were pretty confident, it was a pretty good batting deck and the outfield was lightning if you capatalised on the bad balls.
“It was a good, solid chase and it was good to see Scott Goodwin get some reward for the hard work he’s been doing in the nets.
“Josh Bartel also chipped in with some runs in his second game.
“He’s a very handy pickup in the second half of the year, it’s been good to finally start getting a settled lineup.”
