Eisteddfod committee president Deanne Burr said feedback had highlighted previous overlaps with HSC trials and music exams.
“We’ve been told this is what people want, so we’ll trial it this year, then review it,” she said.
Several new sections have been added, including all ability solo and group dance sections for all ages and an organ challenge in partnership with St Matthew’s Church.
In speech and drama, original scripted sections for primary and secondary schools have been introduced as well as a HSC/VCE monologue category.
Mrs Burr said the eisteddfod committee aimed to collaborate more with community partners and schools, offering opportunities for students to assist during the festival.
“Now that we’re using more technology, we need more volunteers who are tech savvy,” she said.
Entries for the 2019 Albury Wodonga Eisteddfod close on May 17.
