The stormy weekend was a welcome relief for farmer Justin 'JB' Burns and daughter Lucy, 4, whose Boxwood property is located between Brocklesby, Walla and Burrumbuttock.
Mr Burns said they recorded 45mm across 72 hours, with the pair taking to the paddocks to celebrate.
"It's terrific time to get it," he said. "It couldn't be better really. It's ideal for early grazing varieties to put in a bit of pasture work.
"Follow up rain now would be good."
Mr Burns said without follow up rain the recent downpours would not make much of a difference, but the region had been luckier than some other areas.
"There's a lot of people still in trouble, the rain has been pretty patchy," he said.
"Follow up rain every ten days or so would be really good."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Albury recorded 10.4mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Monday, while Wangaratta received 2.8mm, Yarrawong, 2.0 and Rutherglen 6.6mm.
Fellow Walla farmer Ashley Paech said their property at Morgan's Lookout received about 25mm.
He said it was a very helpful boost ahead of sowing crops, but more rain needed to follow to really get the season to a decent start.
"We're in a good window of time to receive the rain, we're getting more on substance now than the rain in summer and it'll have a lot more impact now the soil temperature is coming down," he said.
"It'd be nice to get another 20mm in the next two to three weeks and that gives us a reasonable autumn.
"There's still a bit of a risk that we get this rain and then nothing and when it comes to sowing crops, the seed will come up, the plants will come up but there won't be the follow up rain... we need follow up rain to make it worthwhile going out sowing."
Mr Paech said the rain had been really, really valuable to people with low dams looking for stock water.
On the Border the weather will continue to be cooler, with minimum temperatures of 7 degrees predicted and rain forecast on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
