Ryan Sneddon, 42, was taken into custody about 3pm on Tuesday when police finally stopped him on the Hume Freeway, at the intersection of McKoy Street in Wodonga.
They had first spotted him in Rutherglen travelling at about 130km/h, before he accelerated and sped away.
After his arrest, police discovered Sneddon was unlicensed and wanted in relation to three burglaries committed in Melbourne between 2017 and 2019.
Sneddon, who moved from Melbourne to Yarrawonga at Christmas after being released from jail in November, appeared in Wodonga Magistrates Court yesterday.
He applied for bail, but was refused by magistrate Peter Dunn.
Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Wayne Taylor said police also found a "breaker's kit" in the car after Sneddon's arrest on Tuesday, accusing him of going equipped to steal.
"When confronted by the police initially, he chose to speed up and endanger himself and the community by reaching 160km/h on a highway," he said.
Sneddon's lawyer flagged he would plead guilty to a burglary committed in January this year, where he was caught on CCTV trying to dismantle the security camera.
But he denied the earlier offences, despite police alleging they found a jacket with his DNA in blood at one crime scene and had photos of him with the stolen items from the second burglary.
The court heard he had a history of drug addiction and mental health issues.
"My intentions are to continue being drug free," Sneddon told the court.
"I've moved from Melbourne and my past is still catching up with me."
Mr Dunn said Sneddon was too high of a risk of reoffending to release on bail.
"He's going equipped to steal, he admits to speeding to get away from police," he said.
"House burglaries are extremely serious offences and would normally attract a term of imprisonment."
The case was adjourned to be heard in Melbourne.
