Brodie Ray had to be sedated several times, but each time the sedative wore off he awoke with aggressive and threatening behaviour.

A final dose of sedative finally worked, then paramedics transferred him from Corowa hospital to Albury under police escort.

Ray did not front Albury Local Court this week to answer charges stemming from his violent outburst, as a video link could not be established with the Cooma Correctional Centre.

Defence solicitor Jane Waddell put to magistrate Rodney Brender, who ordered a sentence assessment report, that Ray be considered for an intensive corrections order.

Ray, 26, pleaded guilty to charges of assault police and assault a person aiding officers.

Police were called to a residence in Malbec Court, Corowa, on July 3, 2018, about 12.30am, after a report of a drug overdose.

When they arrived they spoke to Ray's partner, who directed them to the main bedroom.

Ray was found in a dazed state on the bed and he slurred his words when he tried to speak. He then attempted to stand up but collapsed "in a heap" on the floor, so was helped back on to the bed.

He'd taken seven 300 milligram anti-seizure tablets plus an unknown number of paracetamol and anti-depressant tablets.

After he was taken to Corowa hospital, his partner had to be stopped from staying in the emergency room as her own behaviour was aggressive towards Ray.

Ray became increasingly aggressive towards police and paramedics and had to be held down on a bed.

He was sedated, but this worked for only a short time before he became aggressive.

Ray was sedated again before striking out "with his fists flying," punching one officer to the neck and chest.

A paramedic stepped in to help, so Ray took a swing at him though missed.

Ray lashed out again, kicking a police officer in the ribs, causing him to "gasp out".

He will be sentenced on May 13.
