McCowan said she has seen the league change completely.
"I've been around for a few years, so it's been good seeing the transition from SEABL to NBL1, and the standard has improved drastically.
"Being able to see from when I was a young kid looking up to the lady Bandits, to now playing in the lady Bandits, the expectation is a lot higher.
"You have to work a lot harder for your position.
"It's really good for the young kids now to see that we can be competitive and we do have a good team.
"We have some excellent players and it's good for the younger kids to have something to look forward to."
More sports news:
Fellow teammate and new centre Jessie Edwards agreed that after playing her first two games for the Bandits, the competition is strong.
"I think the comp has been a good standard so far," Edwards said.
"We've got really quality players in this league, so I think every team is going to be a good fight.
"Lauren (Jackson) has been a good coach.
"It's nice to have somebody who up until recently has been playing.
"She coaches from a players perspective, which I think is good."
The Bandits will be looking to bounce back from the weekends loss to Ringwood when they take on the Diamond Valley Eagles at home on Saturday.
The Eagles are sitting on one win and two losses this season.
