In what has been described as "unbelievable" the expected downpour became reality for farmers who were "madly sowing" in anticipation.
"The dam near the house on the farm is overflowing which is unheard of," Green Park Rand farm manager Darcy Kilmartin said.
"We had 66mm overnight which is just incredible.
"It means so much and it means money."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mr Kilmartin said the dams on the 7000 acre property were close to empty.
"Everyone had the mindset that we wouldn't get as much as we did but the dams are now full and all the crops we have sown have got a decent amount of water," he said.
"It was definitely enough to germinate and now if we don't get any more rain for six weeks or so it won't matter too much as the crops can grow.
"We were working pretty much 20 hour days sowing in the lead up to the rain."
Mr Kilmartin said all of their canola crops are in with 70 per cent of their wheat crops sown with just their barley crops to go.
"We are on track to be done by the middle of May," he said.
The farm also has 4000 merino ewes which have been in containment for the past two months.
"Whatever we give them is all they get as feed so hopefully in the next six to eight weeks we will have some feed crops ready for them," Mr Kilmartin said.
"The rain just means so much to everyone and by the sounds of it it was pretty widespread."
Green Park Rand owner Angus Macneil said he hasn't seen rain like this for "a couple of years atleast".
"It is obviously fantastic and our crops now will grow like mad," he said.
"The fear is when you get a little bit of rain your crops will germinate and then dies but with this soaking you assume it will continue to grow.
"Looking over the farms records, the last 15 months have been the driest out here going back 88 years.
"So this soaking is just what we need."
Closer in to town the Bureau of Meterology recorded 46.1mm in Albury, 37.6mm in Yarrawonga and 32.8mm in Wangaratta.
