The event was back at Hovell Tree Park in Albury after last year's event was cancelled due to a lack of volunteers and organisers said they were "overwhelmed" with the support.
"After our call out last year we now have so many volunteers on board and the event is a credit to them and all their hard work," Albury RSPCA volunteer branch vice-president Lauren Black said.
"I have only been on board since last year but I think this would have to have been one of the biggest turn outs yet.
"We had so many online registrations this year as well as on the day registrations.
"We haven't got our final number back from HQ yet but the ladies on the registration desk said it was around 800.
"From 9am is was packed and we had so many different breeds on show.
"People support this I think because there isn't any other events like this which are purely for your dog.
"Not a lot of events are this accepting of your dogs.
"And it is a great day out for them as well, they get exercise and spend time socialising with other dogs."
Ms Black said the support from stall holders was "unexpected".
"We had so many of the stall holders donate their day's takings to our local branch which was just fantastic," she said.
"All the money raised is going straight back into our local branch to support the programs we offer to our community.
"One of the things I really want to highlight was the generosity of our business community.
"We had the most prizes ever donated."
IN OTHER NEWS:
The walk kicked off at 11am with wagging tales dominating the 5km course from Hovell Tree Park along Murray River at Noreuil Park, across the Union Bridge and along the Lincoln Causeway.
The walk was the main event with stall holders, prizes and events on offer when participants returned.
"The agility show and pet show were a hit as well as the family corner," Ms Black said.
"It really was a family affair and we all know your dog is part of your family.
"I just want to thank our community and all our volunteers who turned out and made the event one of the best yet.
"And it will be back next year for sure."
