Albury's Commercial Club will host the $50,000 three-day event from Friday.
"It's massive for all the top amateur players," snooker club vice-president Don Walker said.
"This is the first time it's been held and we assume providing it's successful, there's no reason why it won't continue."
Around 120 players will contest the prestigious titles, including a handful from overseas, including Asia.
"Shaun Dalitz (Albury-Wodonga) and Adrian Ridley (Yarrawonga) are both in the top 10 players in Australia and are a very good chance to get into the finals," Walker said.
To highlight how big the event is, the annual Fred Osbourne Classic at the same venue every August is considered a major Australian tournament with total prizemoney of $20,000.
A calcutta and dinner will be held on Saturday night with the finals on Sunday.
The winner will pocket $14,000.
