With Jarred Lane in superb form, the home team was able to restrict Lavington to a seven-point half-time lead, before the favourites kept the Roos goalless in an 11.18 (84) to 5.8 (38) win.
"They basically rolled one loose (player) back and we turned it over, they'd then make their way up the ground, we'd win it back and then turn it over, that's how it was," Panthers' mentor Simon Curtis said.
"When we connected better up through the centre half-forward line, that made a real difference."
AB Mackinlay booted three goals and exciting youngster Macca Hallows two.
Midfielders Tom Hargreave and Curtis were terrific, while Liam Ross and Adam Butler also impressed.
Lane was outstanding, while profile recruit Shane Tregear continued his strong form of the past three weeks after missing rounds three and four.
